Speakers' Series: Week of July 15th
The week of July 15th brings exciting new speakers OUTSIDE in the LMA.
Two talks this week hit on some very timely topics, both dealing with brain health:
On TUESDAY Boston Children’s Hospital’s Sharon Levy, MD, MPH, will present “For Parents of Adolescents: Marijuana and the Adolescent Brain.” Now that cannabis is legal in MA, what do you need to know? Dr. Levy has evaluated and treated thousands of teens with substance use disorders over 20+ years. Her talk with be brief with time for Q&A after. Countway Courtyard, 12:30 pm.
Can meditation slow brain aging? On THURSDAY Harvard Medical School Assistant Professor of Psychology Sara Lazar, PhD, discusses “Neuroscience of Meditation and Mindfulness,” based on her research to identify the neural mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of yoga and meditation. She practices what she preaches, and her research has been covered by The New York Times, USA Today, CNN, and her work has been featured in a display at the Boston Museum of Science. Her research results suggest that meditation can produce structural alterations in the brain, and may slow down the age-related atrophy of the brain as well.
This is a short talk (20 mins) plus Q&A. 12:30, Countway Courtyard
