The beginning of January 2016 saw the completion of 730,000 square feet of new development in the LMA.

And that’s just the start.

The number of square feet presently in development is another 886,000. Tag onto that another 1.68 million in the planning process. Growth in and around the LMA is at warp speed.

Clinical, Academic and Residential Developments

The combined total of residential units completed, under construction and planned is 1,770, including developments on the edge of the LMA near Fenway. Emmanuel College’s new Julie Hall dormitory will add 691 student beds to their campus, and Brigham and Women’s Building for the Future, expected to open this summer, adds 620,000 square feet of clinical and research space to the neighborhood.

Development Demands Utility Improvements

While all this construction is going on above ground, the Boston Water and Sewer Commission has plans for underground upgrades. Brookline Avenue will see a water main replacement project starting in late summer. The main will be replaced from The Riverway to Pilgrim Road, and sewer replacements will be installed from Francis Street to The Riverway.
