GoLongwood TMA Newsletter: Introducing Our New TMA Program Manager

Our GoLongwood TMA Newsletter is released quarterly, presenting valuable information to commuters in the LMA about planning and programming efforts currently underway. From BLUEbike ride credits to free rides home in case of emergency, our team works hard to ensure that everyone who works in the LMA has the chance to commute in a way that is safe, convenient, and sustainable.

Hello fellow Longwood commuters,

My name is Kashia Point Du Jour and I’m excited to be the new Transportation Demand Management Program Manager at Longwood Collective. I’ll be spearheading the Longwood Collective TMA programming and services to keep us all moving on active modes of transportation. With two months under my belt in the role so far, I’m eager to share with you some of the new initiatives we have underway.headshot of Kashia

Last month, we celebrated “MOVEmber,” encouraging commuters to get active and take sustainable modes of transit on their commute for the chance to win prizes. It was a big success with 5 winners chosen across three challenges -- but the excitement does not end there!

Soon, we’ll be kicking off our first ever winter season of Bike Longwood. Starting next Tuesday through March, there will be multiple opportunities for LMA commuters to sign up for free, 15-minute bike tune up sessions. This was made possible through an exciting new grant the Longwood Collective TMA received from MassDOT.

Stay tuned on our social media for real-time updates and remember to log your trips! I’m excited about the work that we’ve started and look forward to seeing you on the streets of Longwood. If you ever have any questions, or want to connect, please feel free to reach out to me at kpointdujour@longwoodcollective.org.

Happy commuting!

Best,

Kashia

Longwood Collective TMA Awarded MassDOT Grant

Our TMA was recently awarded funding from the MassDOT TMA Grant Program to expand our popular Bike Longwood program and improve the experience for riders of the LMA Shuttle.

The multi-modal transportation programs that we run in Longwood include a robust shuttle program, carpool matching services, an emergency ride home program, and commuter incentives to get Longwood's employees and students from point A to point B in a way that is convenient, efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly.

Thank you to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' Healey-Driscoll Administration and MassDOT Secretary & CEO Monica Tibbits-Nutt for their continued support of TMAs.

Type 10 Supercars Showcase

Members of our Longwood Collective TMA team had the opportunity to visit an exciting showcase from the MBTA of their future Green Line vehicles.

These new vehicles, known as Type 10, are designed to make the Green Line more accessible, more comfortable, and safer for passengers. With easy LMA access via both the E and D lines, the Green Line is a crucial transportation mode for Longwood Commuters.

The debut of these new Type 10 supercars is an exciting milestone and builds on the years of support and encouragement the effort has received from the Longwood Collective.

MBTA Track Improvement Nears Completion

For the first time in at least 20 years, the Red Line is slow zone free, the MBTA recently announced. Following the completion of critical track work in November, the Red Line now joins the Blue and Orange lines as speed restriction-free.

The final leg of the Track Improvement Program will be taking place this month on the Green Line. Service will be suspended between Park Street and Medford/Tufts, including Union Square, from December 6-20.

Once this phase of the Track Improvement Program is complete, the Orange, Blue, and Green Lines will all be speed restriction free for the first time in decades.

MOVEmber Challenge Results

Throughout the month of November, we put on a series of challenges in raffles through our GoLongwood commuter platform to encourage commuters to take active, sustainable modes of transportation to get to work like running, biking, or walking. Winners were chosen for each challenge and awarded prizes such as an REI gift card, bike lock, and year-long bike repair membership!

Participants logged 1,271 trips in the month of November, totaling 3,552 miles traveled.

Pilot Bus Lane Survey

The Town of Brookline and the MBTA recently installed a dedicated bus lane pilot project to improve bus travel times and reliability for riders. The bus lanes, located along Washington Street between Station Street and the Boston city line, serve MBTA bus routes 60, 65, and 66 and are accessible to emergency vehicles and Longwood Collective shuttles. Installation began in late June 2024 and concluded late September 2024.

The year-long pilot project, which will conclude in August 2025, will be evaluated through a data-driven approach that examines elements including transit performance, traffic patterns and volumes, as well as public input. If you travel through this area, we would greatly appreciate your input. Please provide your feedback by completing the survey linked below. Your input is invaluable to this pilot!
