It’s officially summer and you know what that means! Outside//, the MASCO and member-sponsored placemaking program, is returning for its second year Monday, July 13th, 2020.  The yellow umbrellas are back along with outdoor furniture and fun things to do around the LMA.

 

Outside// began in 2019 with the goal of providing opportunities for those who work and visit the LMA to take a pause from their day.

MASCO Names New President

David Sweeney has been appointed President and CEO of MASCO, the Medical, Academic and Scientific Community Organization for Boston’s 210-acre Longwood Medical and Academic community, the LMA. Currently Chief of Staff to Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh, Sweeney is a longtime public servant with significant public policy and operational leadership experience who was selected after an extensive regional search.

Food Truck Fridays is a MASCO sponsored program that began in the summer of 2016. A variety of vendors are invited to 375 Longwood Avenue from 11am-2pm each Friday from May-September.

For the summer of 2019, two trucks came each Friday: a lunch truck paired with a dessert truck, to make sure that everyone's cravings were satisfied. The vendors and schedule for the summer of 2020 are not yet available, but will be published in the spring of 2020.

TUESDAY, September 10th Author Christina Thompson is OUTSIDE and will discuss her latest book THE POLYNESIAN TRIANGLE, which delves into an area of ten million square miles, defined by the three points of Hawai‘i, New Zealand, and Easter Island. All the islands inside this triangle were originally settled by a clearly identifiable group of voyagers: a people with a single language and set of customs, a distinctive arsenal of tools and skills, and a collection of plants and animals that they carried with them wherever they went.

Tuesday August 27th, Storyteller THEA IBERALL is OUTSIDE from 12-2 pm at the Countway Courtyard telling stories on the half hour. Iberall has been called ‘a shimmering bridge between heart and mind.’ An inductee into the International Educators Hall of Fame, she writes stories that springboard from the personal into moral issues, scientific questions, and emotional truths.
